“Thank you for these! We’re going to need 5,000.” The story of how one store sold 5,000 packets to a local church.

When Janet Conrad, manager of By THE Book in Edmond, Oklahoma, picked up a sample “Share the Good News of Christmas” gift bag at the International Christian Retail Show in Denver in July, she had the sense that it was a perfect fit for Henderson Hills Baptist Church. Every year the church does a huge program before Christmas during which they always give something away. When she saw the beautiful ESV New Testament Christmas Edition that is part of the gift, she knew it was perfect for Henderson Hills. “The pastor consistently recommends the ESV from the pulpit and has asked our bookstore to make sure we are well stocked with the ESV Study Bible,” said Conrad. “I knew this would be perfect for publicizing their Christmas program.”

But even though she saw the potential in the packet, she was still a little surprised when one of the pastors called her to say, “Thank you for bringing this to us. We think we’re going to need 5,000 of them.”

Recently 101 cases of Share the Good News of Christmas gift bags and its contents arrived. According to Connie Goodson, Worship and Arts Director of Henderson Hills Baptist Church, the church plans to make the bags available immediately following Thanksgiving to the church family to pick up and take to co-workers, neighbors, family and friends to invite them to the church’s three-night Christmas production, weekend church services, and Christmas Eve services.

“The Share the Good News of Christmas gift bags are an ideal package,” added Conrad, “perfect in that they put the Word of God, as well as a tract by Max Lucado that gives the gospel, into the hands of people while also inviting people to come to a Christmas event to hear the gospel proclaimed.”

OTHER ENDORSEMENTS

If it is about the Word of God and the testimony of Jesus, then Prestonwood is in. We are looking forward to participating in the launch of Share the Good News of Christmas. We can reach our world with the gospel one church, one neighbor, one life at a time.

Pastor, Prestonwood Baptist Church

We're excited about the "Good News of Christmas" program. Not only does it allow us, as Christian retailers, to offer a budget-conscious, effective program to local churches, but it also places the very best book possible, God's Word, into the hands of people during the Christmas season. We plan to give this major emphasis in the early Fall, in plenty of time for churches to consider the plan and make a decision to participate. Our friends at Crossway Publishing have indeed given us a tool to partner with churches and to help touch people in our community with the Good News of the Gospel at the time of year when we celebrate our Savior's birth. What an opportunity!

The Christmas season is an ideal time to share the good news of the gospel that Christ came to save us from our sin. Crossway’s Share the Good News of Christmas program is designed to help local churches share this good news. I have looked over the material and am excited about its potential to reach our neighbors with the gospel.

It’s far too easy to wake up on Jan. 2 having done nothing more for our neighbors at Christmas time than give them a plate of “sentimental cookies.” Now, Crossway is giving us a tangible way to proclaim the Word to our community and invite them our local churches. At the time of the year when we remember that “the Word became flesh,” could anything be more appropriate than giving our community the Word? Crossway’s Share the Good News of Christmas is a tremendous value and I look forward to encouraging our church to participate.

The “Share the Good News of Christmas” outreach New Testament is an imaginatively packed tool that will be of great service to many churches. It provides a finely-crafted, accessible gospel presentation with—yes!—a nicely presented and straightforward copy of the New Testament. A great way to let a lot of people discover the real meaning of Christmas.

“Having now read through the ESV several times in my personal devotional life, I have adopted it as the primary text for my teaching and writing ministry. I appreciate … the ESV [because it] retains theological terminology that is at the heart of the Christian faith and exercises care and precision in the translation of nuances and gender language, so as to preserve a text that is as faithful as possible to the original. By the same token, the translators have maintained clarity and literary excellence, making this an accessible translation for modern readers. My hope is that the ESV will draw millions of people into the reading and study of God’s Word and into a more intimate relationship with the God of the Word.”
