CPC/BISAC Code Transition

Books, Bibles should now receive BISAC codes

See Retailers + Resources column on the transition!

Christian Product Category (CPC) codes were devised by the Christian Product Standards Group, now merged into the Christian Retail Solutions Committee. Book and Bible codes have been revised to become part of the North American publishing industry's BISAC product category code standards (Jan. 1, 2008). Gift and specialty, music, and other products should still receive CPC codes.

CPCs and BISAC codes have two key purposes:

  1. Help retailers merchandise products by category so consumers easily can make buying decisions. This relates to store signage, best-sellers by category, and sales-floor space allocation that directly engage customers to meet their buying needs.
  2. Enable effective inventory analysis by category to improve sales performance, customer service, and return on inventory investment.

Added benefits to category analysis include more effective product development and title acquisitions, less waste to meet demonstrated customer demand, fewer returns, and reduced supply chain costs.
